International day of the electric vehicle
As every Wednesday, we welcome you to a new post on the Shibumi blog. On Friday, September 9th, the international day of the electric vehicle is celebrated. At Shibumi we are aware of the environment, for this reason in this post we will talk about the relationship of electric vehicles with it.
Electric Vehicles
An electric vehicle is powered by electrical energy stored in batteries. Within the category of "Electric Vehicle" three types can be distinguished: the 100% electric vehicle, vehicle with extended autonomy and the plug-in hybrid.
Let’s see the main characteristics that differentiate the three types of categories:
- 100% electric: vehicle that only works with electric energy. This works with the energy that comes from the electrical network through charging points.
- Extended autonomy: this category has a combustion engine that feeds the batteries.
- Plug-in hybrid: it is a combination of an internal combustion engine with an electric motor and batteries.
Iberdrola explains us that Ányos Jedlik invented the world's first electric motor in 1828, which he later implemented in a small car model.
After knowing a little more about electric vehicles, let's see what advantages and disadvantages this type of vehicle has and its relationship with the environment.
Advantages
The advantages of electric vehicles for the environment are:
- They do not generate or do not generate as many polluting gas emissions while they work.
- The cost of loading is lower than the traditional one.
- They do not need oil, filters, lubricants...
- The engine generates like a generator, so it uses the energy of braking to recharge the battery. In this way energy is returned to the system.
- More efficient.
- They do not have an exhaust system.
Disadvantages
Apart from the advantages that we have listed above, electric vehicles also have some disadvantages, such as:
- They need specific charging stations for electric cars. It is true that there are more and more charging point installations in public infrastructures, however they may not always be available.
- Specialized workshops are insufficient in the market.
- Few models exceed 600 kilometers of approved autonomy.
- Battery vehicles force you to measure consumption with special care in the coldest months of the year because their figures skyrocket.
- High economic cost.
It is true that we have found several disadvantages in electric vehicles. However, these disadvantages were not related to the environment.
Electric vehicles have many advantages, but they also have disadvantages. It is worth noting its favorable use for the environment, which, as we have been able to observe during the blog, is highlighted for knowing how to take care of our planet.
From Shibumi we wanted to wish you a happy September and thank you for reading us in one more publication. We hope that today's brief content has been to your liking. Until next Wednesday!
